Roderick - or Rod the Mod as we called him - is very calm when driving about with his students, which must of been hard with me...ha. He is very down with the kids as well in the way that he knows how kids (well teens) learn and teaches to the way which we know. This helped a lot as my dad wasn't like this when we were out in my car (The Beast). He has no doubt in his mind about your capabilities as he will only ask things he knows you can do safely and to the best of your ability. Although on the few times I went from 2nd to 5th in one movement he kept calm and told me what I was doing wrong and I've never done it since.

First off I would like to say that I would recommend Rod to anyone! I had the fortune that a friend of mine recommended him to me when I decided that the time had come to learn this age old art. The only thing I can say about him is that he is brilliant...although not all his jokes are! I had my ups and downs like any new driver, including the ability to miss 3rd gear on many an occasion, but Rod has a ridiculous amount of patience and finds the perfect way to explain a situation to suit you. I only started lessons in late August and I passed my test first time in December, I don't think it would have been possible without Rod and I can't thank him enough for all his support and encouragement. Rod, you are a star!

I had been learning to drive for a couple of years before I met Rod but had never had the confidence to sit my test, he soon changed that and I passed first go thanks to his infinite wisdom and patience. I'm finding it hard to put across how knowledgeable and skilled he is at what he does, he is almost like Mr Myagi from the Karate Kid! In all seriousness though, Rod is brilliant, no question is a stupid one, he will always give you a solid answer. After my test I did Pass Plus with him as well, it was worth it, I never realised how daunting motorways could be to drive on until I got out there, but as I said above, Rod's patient and nurturing style has helped me and I am now solidly confident that I can take on motorways as well as the other aspects of the Pass Plus course

I had already passed my test but after some personal setbacks in my life I stopped driving for a several years and when I went to get back behind the wheel I would get panic attacks. I decided to get some refresher lessons and chose Rod - mainly due to his testimonials but also cos he was self-employed. I felt very comfortable with Rod and he quickly put me at ease. After several lessons with him I finally took the plunge to go it alone. I am now driving without the panic and thank you for your patience!! I would recommend Rod as an instructor as he makes driving fun and I wish I had him as my first driving instructor!!

Rod is a patient, understanding and just generally brilliant driving instructor who takes you step by step through everything you need to learn to drive. He also makes sure that you are comfortable with what you are doing and you never feel out of your depth. I went to Rod with a hard challenge, to try pass my test within a 2 month period and I'm glad to say Rod coped brilliantly with it!

Before I got in touch with Rod I had 50 lessons from another instructor and failed my test twice, so as you could guess when I started with Rod I was very nervous and had nil confidence, however Rod changed all that. He made me feel totally at ease and brought me on so much. Things my previous instructor had taught me to do were wrong and Rod was very patient with me when we were rectifying these. I wish I had gone with Rod from the very beginning! Needless to say I passed first time with Rod! He taught me how to be more confident and helped me learn from my mistakes, I was no longer a nervous wreck getting into the car! I would advise anyone looking for an instructor to go with Rod he is reliable, makes you feel at ease and an absolute professional at his job. Rod is a superb instructor. He always took time to go over the parts of driving I found difficult so that I became a confident driver. Any questions I asked were always answered clearly and he was always happy to provide any further clarification I needed. Learning to drive can be stressful but Rod helped to make the experience far more enjoyable than I would have ever expected driving lessons to be.

Rod is a patient and encouraging instructor who will always take the time to help you with anything you are struggling with. I started off as a nervous learner who didn't think I would ever be able to drive but I passed my test, first time, last Saturday and now I don't wanna get out my car! I chose to do my test in my own car and Rod was supportive about this and took me out a few times in that - he must have been brave to have no dual control!
I would recommend Rod to anyone looking for a relaxed instructor you can get on with who will get you through your test!

At 38 I thought it was about time I passed my driving test. I took several lessons with another company, but things didn't go too well and I contacted Rod hoping to re-build my confidence. He is a fantastic driving instructor. Prior to lessons with my previous instructor I would shake uncontrollably and be close to tears, but not with Rod. He is friendly, patient, and tailors every lesson to suit. Within a couple of lessons my confidence was back and I was driving around Edinburgh and handling situations that would previously have reduced me to tears. I cannot recommend him highly enough. On the morning of my test I found my 'Happy Place' and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was overjoyed when the examiner told me I had passed - first time - and with only one minor fault!! Contacting Rod was one of the best decisions I have ever made and he has truly helped me change my life. Now the world is my oyster. I can go out whenever I like, visit family and friends when I want and not have to wait for a lift! Thank you Rod, you are a legend!

I changed to Rod from a previous instructor and was pleasantly surprised by his patient and assuring attitude towards me as a learner driver. He engineered my lessons in order to suit my stage in learning, which resulted in me passing just last week! I would highly recommend Rod as he is all in all a fantastic instructor. Rod is a family friend and a driving instructor so he was obviously my first choice when I came to be 17 and was wanting to drive. I did not know anything about cars but after 25 lessons I passed my test 2nd time after nerves got to me the first time. I just passed my test the other day all thanks to Rod! Learning to drive with Rod was very enjoyable - he covered everything needed to know to drive safely and not just to pass my test! Rod offered all the support I needed both behind the wheel and whilst studying for my theory, even after I passed my test he was still happy to answer texts about problems I've had while driving alone. I was banned for 3 years from driving.
I started with Rod one year after my ban was up, after being recommended him by a friend. 8 lessons later I passed my test first time. I found Rod to be very patient, a top teacher and most of all HONEST about what needed to be done and time scale to do it. He ironed out any bad habits I had and gave me the confidence and guidance I needed. I just wish I had him way back when I first started driving, it would have been so much EASIER. 10/10 Instructor.

I originally started my driving lessons when I was 17 back in Derby, but they were interrupted when I moved away to uni. I wasn't that fussed about learning to drive at the time - which was not helped by my instructor spending most of the lesson in stony silence, which didn't make them the most enjoyable experience. I was a little worried about starting to drive again, especially after hearing a couple of horror stories from my friends - one was reduced to tears by her instructor, and the other managed to stress out his instructor so much she refused to teach him.
Thankfully, Rod isn't like any of those instructors. He's great at putting you to ease, and always manages to stay calm when you make mistakes, even when I had a couple of pretty close calls! He's also great at clearly explaining things to you, and letting you know when you've done things well which really helps to build up your confidence. He was also really flexible when it came to arranging lessons, and helps you to fit your lessons in when is most convenient for you. I would definitely recommend Rod to anyone, thanks!

I really thought I was destined never to drive. I had a few lessons at 17 but was far more interested in clothes and make-up so never re-booked. Then, at 26, I decided I needed to learn to drive. Living in a village and getting on a bus with 2 small children is no fun. I went with a popular company, which will remain anonymous, and had a very poor experience. My already poor confidence was was further quashed by my instructor who focused more on my faults than my abilities. He was also very grumpy and in my opinion in the wrong career.
I honestly believe I would have given up then but discovered that I was pregnant for the 3rd time and this made me more determined than ever. I had seen Rod's car driving around and saw his advert in the Konect magazine so decided to try again.
I went from having no confidence in my driving to booking my test within a few lessons and went on to pass 1st time with only 2 minors!!!
Rod himself is a friendly and very easy going person. He instantly puts you at ease and aknowledges your ability with positive comments. He offers constructive criticism and never makes you feel incapable. Also, more importantly, he is NOT at all grumpy!!! I have already recommended him to friends. Thank you so much Rod.

Having been through tough times with a *cough* three-letter national driving school that shalt not be named, I decided to give "Driving with Rod" a shot. From the first lesson I felt very comfortable and relaxed having Rod as my instructor. He went through everything clearly and in easy steps to remember. I've just passed my test after learning with Rod. Rod was very patient and excellent at explaining everything you need to know. I moved to Bathgate from Newcastle and had had lessons down there but moving to Bathgate I didnt really know the roads or area that well. I originally started learning to drive in Currie but hadn't got round to booking a test before I started University in Glasgow. I took lessons in Glasgow but found I had to learn all over again as I had no knowledge of the area I was driving in! After a few failed attempts at passing my test, I gave up to find an instructor in Currie where I felt more comfortable. Rod was recommended to me by a family member and thanks to him I passed my test within a month and a half! I was never really that bothered about driving, I had had some lessons from a friend but was in a car crash and my confidence and nerves failed. I then went for two years without driving when I decided that, at 28, I should really be driving. That's when I got in touch with Rod. Right from the off he put me at ease. He is a great guy who is easy to get on with, who makes sure everything is done at your pace. He also seems to be ultra cool even when you are destroying his clutch! Having Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and OCD, it was safe to say that I was likely to be one of the most nervous learner drivers that Rod ever had the misfortune to teach! Often, one of the first things that people diagnosed with anxiety disorders do is to stop driving. For me to decide to take up driving lessons again was a major turning point but I knew that for me to be able to do it, I needed an instructor who was understanding and patient. Not just an instructor who said they were good with nervous learners, one that actually proved to me that they were.
I honestly don't feel that I could have done it without Rod's expertise, understanding, support and patience...never mind pass my test the FIRST time!
Rod is an excellent teacher and I know that I will definitely recommend him to anybody else I know wishing to learn to drive or even just refresh their driving skills.

I passed my driving test when I was 17 (a few years back). I felt very confident behind the wheel and I was driving a lot - I really enjoyed it. All that finished five years ago when I moved over to UK (originally I'm from Poland). I have not driven in UK since I moved over here and I have hardly driven in Poland since then. Finally, I decided that it's high time to buy a car and start driving again and explore my surroundings. The whole idea of driving again and additionally having everything on the other side of the road/car completely paralysed me. I knew that the only way for me to overcome my fear will be to have a refresher course. I knew exactly what I needed - a professional, mature and experienced driving instructor. I checked a few web pages before I found Rod. I just opened the page and I knew that that's the guy I needed! And I was right! Rod is extremely patient - I have some bad habits that he helped me to get rid of. Driving with him is completely stress free. You can fully concentrate on improving your skills and getting more confident behind the wheel. He prepares routes or exercises for your specific needs and you don't have to be worried that you will be put in deep water - he starts from easy things and moves along if he feels you are ready. He just knows what he does and he is extremely good at it.
If there is anybody who comes from Europe or elsewhere and wants to have a refresher course to feel more confident on the 'other' side of the road - then Rod is definitely the one to call!

Due to the death of a friend to a driving accident, I was petrified to drive. My confidence in cars was so low and my nerves behind the wheel were uncontrollable. After I gave up on my first instructor, I thought I was never going to drive again - then I found Rod. I explained my situation, he was very understanding and made me feel at ease straight away. Some lessons were tough, my pulse would be racing and my mind would go blank with fear. Rod noticed each time this happened, remained patient, helped me relax and reassured me at all times. I have now passed my test and drive on my own with amazing confidence. I had put off learning to drive for years. To start learning when 3 months pregnant is not the most sensible option... but Rod has lots of patience and is an excellent instructor. I'm 26 and I've had a couple of driving instructors but would have to say that Roddy is by far the best. I took lessons when I was 18 but failed my test, never took lessons again til about 25. I phoned Roddy, who I had seen on the 'net. I'm pleased I did as he is very calm, pleasant to talk to with witty banter. That is no idle claim to fame, I have been trying to learn for about 12 years now, but could never grasp it.

I had been learning to drive for over a year and failed my test 3 times. I gave up for around a year and it was a friend that recommended Rod. What can I say - so glad to have met him, first class guy, brilliant instructor, patient, relaxed and pretty funny! No feelings of being rushed, always to your pace, was a joy learning with Rod and he brought my confidence out and got me through my test with him first time. When I was waiting for the bus in early February, I realised I hated waiting in the freezing cold and decided to look for another driving instructor as my previous one wasn't that good. When I phoned Rod, he listened to where I was with my driving ability so far and created a programme of what we had to do and roughly how long it would take to get me up to test standard. As an instructor Rod is very professional and patient and talks you through what you're going to do in advance. If there are any problems with what you are doing, he doesn't shout, he'll just ask you how you thought you did then he'll tell you what was wrong or was not quite right. If you do something well he'll let you know. All in all, Rod is a good instructor and will have a bit of banter - he won't just sit next to you and say "left here, right there"! If there's anything you're not too sure about, you don't need to be afraid to ask him for help!

I first learnt to drive 15 years ago, when I was 18. Despite passing my test then, I didn't have regular access to a car and my lack of experience and confidence soon resulted in me being too nervous to continue driving. After my first child was born last year, I decided I didn't want my mental block about driving to limit what I could do with her and that it was time to face my fear and get driving again at 33. Following a recommendation from a friend, and a friendly chat with Rod over the phone, I embarked on a course of refresher lessons with him. Rod was incredibly patient and understanding of how nervous I was, and very encouraging and constructive in helping me build up my confidence and experience at a manageable pace. I could feel the progress I was making with each lesson as he helped me strike a balance between pushing my comfort zone, so I was always learning, while not tackling things before I was ready which would have been too scary! Ultimately, I am back behind the wheel now, so I have achieved my goal -thanks to Rod. I've already recommended him to several friends and family who will be learning to drive in future, and would have no hesitation in singing his praises to anyone looking for an instructor. I had learnt to drive in the north of Scotland but failed my test. I came to Edinburgh and, after 2 years of putting it off, I decided to give it another shot. Rod was great, he listened to what had gone wrong before - and helped me work on my confidence with city driving. Rod Cameron has definitely found his vocation! I was a long term provisional driver with no real belief that I could pass my driving test. Rod managed to tailor his teaching methods to suit my needs, improve my confidence and skills in motoring and also myself so that I could actually apply for my test with the knowledge I could do it!
I passed my test with only 3 minor faults! I have now been driving for almost a month and believe me it only gets better. On a personal note Rod is a really professional tutor, he's approachable, easy going and able to give you a few giggles along the way, it's easy to spend an hour in his company.

What a difference it makes being on the road. You certainly helped me relax when learning with your good humour and by spending most of my lessons on the road. You always kept calm if I had any dodgy moments and explained well what I had done wrong and what I could do to avoid them happening again. Thanks for helping me pass!

A thoroughly great experience learning to drive with Rod. A very good and patient instructor he got me through my test first time. He takes his time to explain things and will listen when you're in doubt. I would recommend him very highly.

Learning to drive was always going to be difficult for me. I had taken some lessons when I was 18, I'm now 37! Passing my test first time felt like a huge achievement and has (with risk of sounding over the top) been life changing. I can happily recommend Rod as a driving instructor as I found him to be professional, motivated and patient! Oh aye and I passed my test first time!
